Being a busy working mother, I was always trying to squeeze in more dog walks. Luna Loves Walkies allows me to do more of what I love, while providing a reliable dog walking service for busy pet owners.

Since I began dog walking, my appreciation for these wonderful animals has increased tenfold, and I have loved learning more about dog behaviour, first aid, and basic dog training through various courses.

Uniquely, I  offer GPS-tracked walks meaning you can see for yourself the variety of our adventures and know exactly how much exercise your dog is getting after each walk.

I've got a keen eye for a good photo op and will send updates whenever I can.

Home visits, including puppy visits, are also suitable for cats and kittens. Here, I can check on your pets and ensure they are fed, watered, toileted, and have all the attention they deserve.

I look for the most exciting places for zoomies, ball chasing, and side quests (letting their noses guide us!). We rarely visit the same walk twice each week, unless that's what they're used to of course.

Mainly based in and around Sherborne, we are spoilt for choice with the myriad footpaths and bridleways through rolling fields and parkland.

Our Half Day Adventure walks take us to the South West Coast Path for some more rigorous hills and trails. Charmouth, West Bay, Chesil beach and Studland make for a truly dizzying array of adventures for those involved.

My Qualifications

Dog First Aid

Professional Dog Walking: Reactivity and Beyond

Professional Dog Walking: Reactivity and Beyond

Not just a quick online course, I studied an in-person, full day course that was specific for dogs - with the majority being relevant for cats too.

My qualification means I carry a first aid kit with me at all times, and know how to use it!

Professional Dog Walking: Reactivity and Beyond

Professional Dog Walking: Reactivity and Beyond

Professional Dog Walking: Reactivity and Beyond

A hugely enjoyable course delivered by Paws and Progress, which included modules on effectively assessing clients' needs, working with different weather conditions, Safe travel considerations for particularly reactive dogs, how to manage reactive behaviors and preventative strategies to prevent reactions before they happen.

Why Such Small Groups?

Solo Walk Specialist

Luna Loves Walkies is a dog walking service that puts each dog's needs above profit.

Choose an individual walk for your dog if you know they suffer with reactivity, they are nervous, don't like other dogs, or just for your peace of mind that they have my full attention.

I have a GPS tracker which I attach to your dog's collar, which when used with the app shows me their location at all times - along with data such as steps taken and distance covered! This is a service for individual walks only.

'Group walks' are a great opportunity for your dog to socialise and play with other dogs. The maximum group size I will lead is 4 dogs, with 1-2 of these being my own! That way, I know each dog well, including how they will act in any given situation, and I'm able to handle 4 dogs on leads.

Why Don't I have a Van?

Here are the best reasons why:

  • Your home security - a 'pet services' van clearly signals you aren't home.
  • Dog welfare - unless introduced as a puppy, most dogs aren't used to travelling in a cage in the back of a van.
  • I am not concerned with walking as many dogs as I can in an hour. If your dog is part of a group walk, it's likely 1-2 dogs are my own!
  •  I walk your dogs from your front door, on walks they are familiar with. This allows me to spend more time walking and less time transporting, and is ultimately better for your dog.

For more in-depth reasons why vans are not ideal for dog walkers, check out the full article by Dragonfly Pet Concierge.

Cat Drop-ins

Going on Holiday?

No need to book an impersonal cattery for while you're away. Enlisting the help of a caring, dedicated service like Luna Loves Walkies can provide peace of mind that your cat is comfortable at home while you're on holiday.

My service is suitable for indoor cats and those that are used to independently using a cat flap.

I provide two visits of 20 minutes each per day, and will feed, water, change litter, and of course play with and give affection (to those cats that want it)!

How To Choose A Dog Walker: A Guide!

There is a Dog Walker for Everyone and Everybody is Different.

Whether that's our style, the kind of dogs we are used to, our experience and simply how well we get on! The key is finding somebody you trust and that works for your dog and your lifestyle.

Here are some handy tips for choosing the right dog walker for you and your dog:

1. Do Your Research:

🐾Read Reviews: Check online platforms like Facebook and Google for reviews from other pet owners.
🐾Ask for Recommendations: Your family and friends, neighbours, parents on the school run and even your vet might know a great dog walker.
🐾Check out their social media. A great online presence shows they really care about their business.
🐾Check Local Groups: Facebook groups such as community groups or specialty dog owning/walking groups can be a wonderful resource for recommendations in your area.

2. Interview Potential Walkers:

🐾Send a message or call a potential dog walker. You'll know quickly whether you're a good fit for each other from just a brief exchange. Look for a polite, prompt, professional and considered response to your messages.
🐾Schedule a Meet & Greet: Arrange a short meeting with the walker and your dog. Observe their interaction and ask questions such as:
-How long have they been walking dogs? - What breeds and sizes have they worked with? - Are they insured and dog first aid qualified in case of accidents or injuries?

3. Consider Your Dog's Needs:

🐾Temperament: Is your dog social or shy? Does it require extra attention or have any special needs? Can the dog walker provide this for you?
🐾Exercise Level: How much exercise does your dog need?
🐾Schedule: Do you need regular daily walks, or just occasional help?

4. Trust Your Gut - this is the most important one:

🐾Choose Someone You Trust. Go with your instincts! You want to feel completely comfortable leaving your dog in their care.

We're part of the Dorset Dogs Professional Dog Walkers Charter

The Dorset Dogs Professional Dog Walkers Charter is a set of strict guidelines which dog walkers can voluntarily sign up to. I believe that promoting responsible dog walking is really important, for everybody's safety and enjoyment of outdoor areas.

Guidelines include always carrying poo bags and disposing of poo carefully, being aware of spaces where dogs aren't allowed off-lead, and carrying a dog first aid kit with me.

You can read the charter and find my listing on Dorset Dogs.
